One of the things users of Android phones enjoy on their devices is the internet service. People want to use the social media, search for information or probably download the information on to their device but as we all know, these come with a price. The price you need to pay before you can enjoy these great services on your Android device is the DATA.

I hear people complain most times about excessive Data consumption on their Android devices whenever they try to access a particular service. Some even complain of Data consumption even when their device is idle (not in use) then i took some time out to research and study my Android device to know what could have been the cause of excessive data consumption on Android devices and what could be a possible solution.

In this short article, i will show you how you can manage your data subscription on your Android device. You will learn tips on how to reduce the rate of data consumption on your Android anytime you are accessing internet service or use an application. Please note that these tips may also be applicable to other devices like iphones and the likes but because that has not been ascertained, the tips hear is basically for Android users.

To access internet service on your android device, you need to switch ONData service on it . This will allow you connect to internet with your device and give you access to all internet services like social medias, search engines, downloading etc. You can as well switch it OFF when not in use which is one way of preserving Data. When Data service is “ON” on android devices, a lot of activities are taking place on it which is not known to the user. Some applications work in the background these set of applications too consume certain amount of Data. Some of them do not even need your permission before they operate as long as Data service is "ON" on your device. You need to learn how to have control over the activities of these applications.   

Android devices also come with in-built services that allow you set Mobile data limit. With this settings, you can place a limit to the amount of Data you want your device to consume within a certain period. When you activate this settings on your device, it will always check, base on your settings, to ensure that your device did not use more than the amount of data you specified for it no matter your activities on it. Your device will alert you (in form of warning in the status bar)  when ever you reach the warning level specified and it will Disconnect Data service when you reach the maximum data limit you have specified for it in your settings to safe your data. The beauty of the whole thing is that it works automatically.

Now i will show you, with a screen shot, how you can set data limit and warning on your Android device and i will also show you how you can see all the applications using data from background and how you can restrict them.

HOW TO SET DATA LIMIT AND WARNING ON YOUR ANDROID DEVICE

1. Go to settings on your device and click on data usage.

2. inside Data usage, switch “ON” the network you want to connect with and click the check box in front of “Set mobile data limit”

3. Open the “Data usage cycle” field to set the period you want to use your data

4. Adjust the limit and warning to your desired settings. You can drag the lines to adjust or you can click on the numbers to input settings.

HOW TO RESTRICT APPLICATIONS FROM USING DATA FROM BACKGROUND

1. Go to settings on your device and click on data usage.

2. On Data usage page, scroll down to see all applications using your Data. Click on any application you want to restrict from using background data

3. Select the check box in front of “Restrict background data”

With this settings properly placed on your device, you can be sure you will have full control of data usage on your android device.
